Folios 221-222. Copy of a letter from the Marquis of Lapanes [to King William III], dated at Turin [Piedmont], concerning defeat by the French under [Marshal Nicholas] Catinat at the Battle of Marsaglia, after a blundering attack by the Piedmontese and the Grand Alliance under the Duke of Savoy. The allies have suffered 3,000 killed and taken prisoner, plus many wounded, with artillery and colours being lost. Among the dead are the Marquis de Solera, and ?Manuelo de Valesca; while Sebastian Pimentel and Fadrique Enriquez are wounded. The whole of Italy could be lost. Mentions: Marshall Caprara, the Duke of Caprara; the Duke of Gombergh; the Duke of Sesto; the Duke of Uzeda; and Count of Fisteban. See also SP 8/ 14/223.
