Folios 187-188. Unsigned memorandum on the progress of operations of the French against Charleroi. All those coming from Charleroi report that the previous Saturday the French took a redoubt, that the officers and soldiers defending it were taken prisoner, and that since then they are pushing their trenches along the ditch to try to pierce it and 'bleed' the pond. They have made two large breaches in the two bastions, but are fearful of attacking the counterscarp due to mines. Reports rumours on the side of Goseliere that the Governor of Charleroi wished to capitulate but that Luxembourg had not agreed. Reports that day indicate that heavy rains have filled the trenches and swollen the pond. Suspicions and details as to the enemy's movements. No firing having been heard since midday on 29 September there are suspicions of capitulation.
