Folios 137-138. A letter from [Sir] J [John] Somers [to King William III], dated at London concerning the possible establishment of a 'New' East India Company, under a new charter, and the dissolution of the 'Old'. The King approved regulations before leaving England which, had they been approved, would have put the controversy at an end. An act of parliament would be needed to establish a lawful monopoly, which Turkey merchants, and others, oppose. Turkey merchants want five ships annually to the Indies. Mentions: Sir Edward Seymour and Lord chief Justice Holt.
