Folios 73-79. Prince Louis of Baden to the King, dated at the camp near Bessigen. Has received the King's letter and shared it with the Elector of Saxony and the Landgrave to hasten their march towards Bergstrassen where they are to make a diversion. The Elector of Saxony having not judged it appropriate to detach towards him the 2,000 horses he had asked him for, and fearing he will lose the Count de Lippe in a few days as the Landgrave would like to have his troops together, he may find himself alone with his army who are not in a condition to withstand the enemy army. As to Mainz, the King will see that he is unable to send any troops in that direction, having Monsieur Lorge still within range around Brussels; he is assured though that it is important to the Landgrave more than anyone else that the post on the Rhine not fall into the hands of the French. Is still unsure of the enemy's plans: while there is evidence to suspect that they have designs on Mainz, he still has in mind that they may wish to constrain by force the two circles of Swabia and Franconia to enter into some kind of treaty with them and by those means arrive at a universal peace. [P.S. folio 77-77a. Forgets to mention that he sees appearances that the Elector of Bavaria could withdraw his regiments from Piedmont and fears that this will not produce a good result.] [Folio 79: Encloses copy of a letter written to the Elector of Brandenburg regarding his troops; General Flemming is very embarrassed. Begs the King to intervene as this separation could cost them everything.] [Folio 78-78A: Letter which touches upon the movements of Monsieur de Boufflers towards the Moselle, and in the event of these, the movements of the Allies towards Ahr and Andernaisse [the Ardennes?]. Should they run short of bread, the city of Cologne had promised that winter to provide flour as needed at a reasonable price.]
