Folios 66-69. Prince Louis of Baden to the King, dated at the camp at Hailbrun [Heilbronn]. Has despatched Brigadier Stein to his Majesty to inform him of the state of affairs. Passage of the Rhine at Philipsburg on 9 June by the French who, it is reported, are approaching Brussels. Their plan is doubtful, but since it is to be feared that they might come to this country to destroy it entirely, he is marching now to post himself within a few hours of the enemy camp on a small stream called [Lesbach?] to dispute the land with them there despite the enemy's superior forces. Considers it is better to chance something than to wait for a certain loss. He has made clear the need for troop reinforcements and taken actions to secure them, but seeing no one in range to support him he has resolved to do his best with what he has.
