Description

Folios 320-321: Sir George Home Bt, Regulating Captain, Edinburgh. Encloses a letter from David Laird, Regulating Captain, Dundee with other correspondence.

Folios 322-323: enclosure in folios 320-321. Letter dated 5th June 1795 from David Laird, Regulating Captain, Dundee to Sir George Home Bt, Regulating Captain, Edinburgh. Responds to earlier correspondence asking him to account for his conduct concerning the 5 seamen from Montrose, gives the following account, William Mill, rated AB, returned an account of fits, has been 8 or 10 years at sea, mainly in the Navy, but no history of fits could be found, John Fisher, ruptures and a native of Denmark, said he was from Shetland and served a apprenticeship at Shields, a very stout young man with no appearance of any disorder or rupture, Robert Morris, was discharged on account of lameness but despite repeated checks, there was no sign of lameness, James Dempster was a very stout young man and appeared a well qualified seaman, Duncan Clark, appeared older than he said, they asked whether I would receive them and seeing nothing in the Act or the Current law to the contrary, I recieved no other instructions until after they were shipped out of Montrose
