Folios 25-26: Thomas Byam Martin, HMS Dictator, Spithead. Reports that HMS Dictator and HMS Charon arrived at St Aubins, Jersey on 9 August and that every exertion was used in landing and embarking the 25th and 58th Regiments which was completed by the 11th August. Adds that the anchorage at the Island is unsafe and the tides so rapid that he did not consider it justified in continuing there after receiving the proportion of troops he had allotted for HMS Dictator and therefore left orders for HMS Charon to follow with all speed. To prevent any discontent amongst the soldiers he ordered the women and children of the Regiments to be victualled at half allowance which he hopes is agreeable to the Admiralty. Encloses a copy of his proceedings [not present], a weekly account [not present] and the orders he gave to Captain Manly of HMS Charon.
Folios 27-28: enclosure with folios 25-26. Orders dated 10 August 1798 by Thomas Byam Martin to Captain Manly, HMS Charon.
