Folios 217-219. Letter from Lord Sydney to the King regarding the absolute necessity of raising money for Ireland without which it will be impossible to carry on the King's business there. Sydney says that without doubt the proposal [by Mr Lumm] he is sending the King is the best one made. He has shown it to the Queen and Lord Godolphin 'who though he is not very apt to approve anything of this kind when he does not propose anything himself, yet could not much dislike it'. He discusses Mr Lumm's proposal to be one of the Commissioners of the Revenue in connection with which Sir John Lowther's unnamed brother-in-law is mentioned. Sydney complains that some of the Treasury, after he had told them of the necessity of having some money for Ireland, 'do not care how anything goes'. He mentions Lords Godolphin and Marlborough, Mr Hampden, Sir Edward Seymour, Sir Stephen Fox and Mr Montague. Sydney ends with a warning that the Club (the King will know who he means) are planning something that is not for the King's service and whether Godolphin 'be in it or no' Sydney 'cannot tell but he has put off his journey to Tunbridge, which he was fond of a month ago' which makes Sydney suspicious.
