Folios 195-196. Memorandum dated 'near the camp' stating that the enemy's army has been seen: the King's comprises 43 battalions and 80 squadrons; that of Luxembourg comprises 66 battalions and 200 squadrons. From what could be seen the battalions were of 600 and the squadrons of 120-150. The two armies have 74,000 infantrymen and 32-33,000 horses, give or take 1,000 men. They say they want to seek out the opposing army everywhere and kill them all, while at the same time laying siege - if they do the half of what they say there will be many hats lost ['il y aura bien des chapeaux perdus']. The writer went to Mons to learn of the reception of the King - he stopped by on horseback for a moment before the Town Hall to receive homage; the first Alderman and the Magistrate encouraged the people to shout 'Vive le Roi' but few did it and the population is scandalised at the Alderman who has so soon forgotten his legitimate Prince. It is believed Luxembourg will march the next day towards Soignes or Braines, and that the army of the King will decamp shortly thereafter.
