Folios 142-145. Letter dated at Maastricht from the Prince of Waldeck to the King. The Count Cerclaes [Tserclaes], with Monsieur Mean, has been to see him, and the latter has begged him to ask the King if the former may be appointed to act in concert with the Elector of Bavaria in which case the said Count may stay; the Bishop, Chapter and States have every confidence in him. In the event this is not possible the Bishop of Liege would wish for the Count of Tilly in his place, but remaining in the service of the State like the Count Tserclaes remained in the that of Spain. The Prince of Vaudemont has proposed the Count of Thien, which the Prince of Lege does not agree with for several reasons. If they are unable to retain the Count of Tserclaes, orders from the King with respect to the County of Tilly will be required.
