Folios 158-159. Count de Solms to the Prince of Waldeck, dated at Malines. There is still great doubt as to the intentions of the enemy, making it difficult to ascertain the best course of action. Intelligence from various places shows that they are on the alert. Discusses what it would be best to do if Charleroi is besieged, as its governor thinks it will be. Complains of the lack of magazines, food and forage, finding himself without almost everything needed to oppose the enemy. Memorandum of the reply by the Prince: The enemy loses no time in anticipation of the help from England, and raises alarms in various places. He has pressed Flemming to hold himself in readiness, with the 6,000 men.
