Folio 72. A letter from Maximilian Emmanuel, Elector of Bavaria, to the King, dated at the Carmagnola camp. The plan to besiege Carmagnola, as laid out in his previous letter, met with the envisaged success with the enemy in the neighbouring area unable to prevent the place being reduced to capitulation after four days of opened trenches and half a day of firing. Recognising the interest the King takes in the matter, he sends a gentleman of his chamber, the Baron de Simeonis, as an eye witness of the siege and of what has happened in the country since his arrival to provide the details of the campaign and present state of affairs in Piedmont. Prays the King will believe entirely what this man tells him on his behalf, both about these events and on other matters concerning the governing of the Low Countries, of which he has particular knowledge being the one Maximilian Emmanuel sent to Madrid the previous year. Encloses a drawing of Carmagnola with their attacks (not found in this volume).
