Folios 62-65. Copy of a letter from His Catholic Majesty [Carlos II] [Charles II] [King of Spain] replying to envoy extraordinary Fr Schonenbergh, dated on 4 October 1691 [NS] concerning the defence of the Spanish Netherlands for next winter and the coming campaign and against any attempt at invasion by the common enemy [i.e. France]. The King of Great Britain [William III] has proposed stationing troops there from the Elector of Brandenburg and the Duke of [Brunswick-] Zell, but neither the troops the British King has proposed, nor those the Dutch plan to leave, would be sufficient.
