Folio 140. Report of two French prisoners, dated at Louvain. Relates that 1) they crossed the Sambre with 1,500 horses (dragoons and cavalry) commanded by M la Valette; 2) they were followed by 500 horses but do not know where these stayed; 3) Bouffleur remained on the Sambre around Gemeppe with 5,000 men (infantry and cavalry) and some canon pieces; 4) the rumour amongst them was that they would besiege two places at once, one in Flanders and Namur or Charleroi, and their intention was to draw out a garrison to invest one other place; 5) the Duke of Luxembourg had an army of 50,000 men in Flanders; 6) all places between the Sambre and the Meuse were full of people and there would be a flying camp on the side of Dinant and one on the side of Maubeuge which together would comprise 35,000 men; 7) that they were extremely tired having marched four nights, only pausing to refresh their horses for a few hours a day.
