Folios 103-104. A letter from [Admiral Edward] Russell to King William III, dated aboard HMS 'Bretania' ['Britannia'], petitioning in the interests of his brother. Under King James [II], the brother [?Francis Russell] had a lucrative post in the Bedchamber, but gave it up to serve William, which he did notably in Ireland. However, to make ends meet, he has now been forced to give up his lieutenant-colonelcy, and marry an old widow. Likewise, because Russell himself has had no favours from William, and has had to go into debt on account of his own service, he cannot help his brother; and a sister, who was regularly paid her pension under King James, has received nothing under William, much to the detriment of her children. Refers to the favours others have received.
