Folios 98-99. A letter from the Prince of Waldeck to the King, dated at Louvain. Since burning some villages up to Hannut, Bouffleur, who had stayed on the Sambre with nine infantry batallions, has retired the detachments. The word is that he could post himself on the Sambre, which would be embarrassing, if the enemy pushes at the same time in Flanders. The King has apparently made known his views to those of Zeeland, who would like to see more troops at the disposal of Count Horn. Colonel Kau has asked Waldeck's view on the order M d'Andu gave him on behalf of the King to give 200 men from Schottes Regiment - Waldeck, was unable to tell him anything not having seen the King's hand. He hopes that the King has also decided if the regiment of Pratt with other troops must be sent to Groeningen as that province requests. The Count of Solms is going to see the English troops, which from what is said lack chariots [i.e. carts] and other things for the campaign. Undoubtedly Machado will have prepared for the supply of bread and the transport of the same for the English. Advises that some subaltern officers from Douglas' Regiment have deserted. The Marquis of Gastanaga wishes to make a move given the approach of the French in Flanders, but Waldeck does not know how to do it without uncovering the whole side of Brabant; it would be helpful for him to know the intentions of the King: which troops he would like in the grand army, if he thinks it feasible for Count Serclas [Tserclaes] to take some other troops to observe the enemy from this side of the Meuse, what could be done with the garrisons he is close to, and if it appears that they will bring the allies from beyond the Meuse to the surrounds of Aix or even Liege. The Elector of Brandenburg would like to have the 14,000 men who should comprise his army together. Waldeck has told M Spaen of the King's intentions and written to Baron Hayden in Aix, to Colonel Marwitz who is commanding the two regiments of Doerfling, and to Saxe who is given to Flemming, not to cross the Meuse.
