Folios 81-86. Memorandum from the Elector of Brandenburg, dated at Brussels. Refers to the King's wish for the Elector to not only continue there the seven infantry battalions they left there since the last campaign further to the Treaty of 14 October, but also to add to it 2,000 horses to serve this summer. The Elector, considering the prejudice he would suffer through the separation of his army and the considerable extraordinary expenses he would be forced to incur for the subsistence of these troops in a country where supplies are very expensive, had several difficulties with this notwithstanding his good will to contribute all that he could for the preservation and defence of the country. The Marquis of Gastanaga having told the Elector that he wished to second the desires and dispositions of the King, had the following points and articles concluded: The Elector will make whole the seven infantry battalions in that country, such that they amount to 4,900 men (including officers), and will join to that Infantry three cavalry regiments of 23 companies and one regiment of dragoons of seven companies, which together will make up 2,050 horsemen (including officers) - this corps will be commanded by Field Marshal Baron de Spaen and the Elector will have him joined by other generals and a suitable artillery commamnder (further details regarding the command of these troops are included); in consideration of the benefit the Elector is providing to those countries and the common cause in so doing, His Excellence will grant him 36,000 pattagons or escus, together with the six monthly payments provided for in the Treaty of 2 September, for the maintenance of the troops (further details of means of payment and what is to be covered and excluded from this subsidy are included).
