Description

Folios 77B-77C. A Memorandum dated at Malines. The Brigade of l'Ecluse, currently at Malines, will march on 8 May and occupy the quarters vacated by the Brigade of Salisch to be closer at hand for Brussels. In the event of enemy movement by Mons and reliable reports they are marching towards Braine, the infantry in Brussels could take a post by the River Senne [or Zenne] and be joined in little time by the 6,000 Brandenburg men; in such event, the infantry of l'Ecluse would be ordered to march to join the others and the two cavalry brigades of Barons Stain [Stayn] and Isselstein could march to join the other troops which would have taken or occupied the posts beyond Brussels. With this disposition they could within 24 hours have a corps of nearly 20,000 beyond Brussels, not counting the Spanish cavalry which could still join them. Should the enemy approach with a considerable corps with the ability to look beyond Halle, they would need at the same time for all other rearguard troops to march to join them too. The Regiment of Frieshem [Frisheym?], now at Semps [Zemst?], could be sent to Scarembeeck [Schaerbeek?] and the artillery with the Regiment of TerBrugge to Semps [Zemst?]. The have sent 200 men to the Chateau de Burse [Beersel?] with the order to throw themselves at Halle on the first news. The place or post to be taken first beyond Brussels will need to be decided at Brussels.
