Folio 76. The petition of Richard, Earl of Ranelagh [Paymaster of the Forces], [?appealing for more funds]. In 1685, Sir Stephen Fox delivered an account to the Lord Treasurer [First Lord of the Treasury, the Earl of Rochester] for the one-third of the poundage ascribed for payment of Exchequer fees allocated out of the establishment, which was then £600,000. However, since the accession of King [William III] it has never reached that level, making difficulties providing for the forces under his care. Furthermore, he has been required to provide £1,500 annually for Sir Robert Howard.
