Folio 67. Memorandum written in the hand of the Prince of Waldeck. The Prince of Waldeck to the King. Remarks on various points submitted in a memorandum concerning the conduct of the campaign: (a) barracks/confinement of the troops - to follow the enclosed disposition; (b) when to send back the 4,000 men of Baron de Spaen, on top of the 6,000 men staying with the State's army - the '15th' of that month led by Lieutenant General Bricmoor; (c) How to feed the men and horses at the barracks - those that cannot feed themselves, to the quarters of the State Magazine under the direction of Provedidor Machado; (d) What form the State's army should take - all troops currently composing the army to be held in one corps; (e) how to concert with the army between the Rhine and the Meuse and what concert to make with the armies on the High Rhine - they must push the principals of the troops to make magazines in Liege and to be ready to leave, forming this army [below?] the Rhine once the grass has regrown in order to facilitate the operations they might undertake, they will be pressed to form at the earliest opportunity to resist and occupy a part of the enemy; (f) What disposition to make of Halle and Nivelle - place 700 men commanded in Halle and 100 men detached to remain in Nivelle with orders from the Marquis of Gastanaga to retreat on the approach of a large enemy force; (g) what conduct to take should the enemy undertake a siege (NB the Marquis of Gastanaga wants more troops in Ostende, Aht [Ath?] and Audenarde [Oudenaarde?] as without more garrisons these places will be taken successively, especially Ostende which cannot be rescued and in which England has a great interest) - Charleroi, Aht [Ath?], and Audenarde [Oudenaarde?] to be rescued, but not Niport [Nieuport?] or Ostende these being too distant and leaving the rest of the country exposed; (h) Disposition for the magazines of Namur, Louvain, Brussels and Ghent and for 'chariots' to be able to provide relief rapidly - to be in the care of M Dyckvelt, having been asked by the King to see to that before his departure from Brussels; (i) Which post to take when the season and forage permit - as close to the enemy and with as advanced a post as possible; (j) Specifying to the Council of State which regiments will go on campaign so that they can be provided for - The King will do so on arrival at the Hague; (k) If the King would notify his intentions for the administration of his charge in his absence - He will do so.
