The Family Health Services Appeals Authority (FHSAA) was set up as a successor of the Family Health Services Appeal Unit, which was previously part of the Northern and Yorkshire Regional Health Authority. It was established as a special health authority in 1995 under section 11 of the National Health Service Act 1977. It merged with the National Health Service Litigation Authority (NHSLA) in 2005.
