From 1996 Special Educational Needs Tribunal
The Special Educational Needs Tribunal was set up by the Education Act 1993. It is the body to which parents can appeal against decisions taken by Local Education Authorities (LEAs) during the process of assessing and making special educational provision for children with special education needs. The first case was not heard until 1995 as appeals could only be made against decisions taken after the system was set up. The Tribunal has jurisdiction over cases from Wales as well as England and covers all types of disability.
