Folio 166. Letter from Lord Carmarthen to the King. Despite saying he has little to trouble the King with, Carmarthen proceeds to report on the fleet; the £200,000 loan from the City of London in relation to which he mentions Mr Hampden; the problem in supplying oats and other provisions for Ireland because of the loss of credit and want of ready money; the proceedings of the Commissioners of the Assembly in Scotland against all Episcopal clergy who are to be turned out of doors with their families unless they renounce prelacy. Carmarthen ends with the wish that the States' fleet be in the same state of readiness as the King's, that they send some of their lighter ships into the Downs to wait for the Dunkirk squadron and that the King order the purchase of 20,000 arms to be sent over which is the fewest needed besides what can be made in England.
