Folios 144-148. A letter from Prince Louis of Baden to the King, dated at [Kaiserswerth?]. Regrets being unable to render service to the King as soon as he would like; reports on the state of affairs upon his return from Hungary. Matters are not in a fit state for the continuation of the war with the Turks: they are lacking in everything and payments will not be made in time for the cavalry to be in order before July; whilst they have a considerable number in the infantry, many are young recruits. Cannot say much of the quality of the troops destined for Hungary. The artillery is in a poor state, with no magazines in either Hungary or Transylvania. Points out other difficulties and shares his concern that from what he sees he fears that they are losing time as they did last year; through this negligence the affairs of the Emperor (and consequently those of all the Allies) will take a bad turn. He acknowledges he has written with much frankness but knows of none with more authority than the King to push them to make a last effort to take the necessary measures.
