Folios 138-139. Letter from Lord Carmarthen to the King that their best efforts to put the affairs of Ireland in a good state have little effect. He writes of the difficulties in future provisioning mentioning the absence of [Isaac] Pereira [who has the contract to supply wagons]; his inability to make any conjecture about the number of recruits required in connection with which he mentions Lord Marlborough and aslo comments 'the officers as little mind the getting of recruits here as they do how to govern them when they are in Ireland and without some remedy at the head of the army there, 'all things that relate to it will be but weakly performed'.Carmarthen also writes of the great desire to have a squadron in readiness to intercept the French ships at Dunkirk from joining their fleet at Brest and suggests that it would be very useful if the King could procure information from Dunkirk as to when those ships are ready, their number and the armament of each.
