Folios 133-134. Letter from Lord Godolphin to the King that he has very little to add to his long letter of 2 February [folios 126-129 above]. The loans continue to come in very slowly; they have managed to borrow £40,000 on the Excise to be applied for disbanding the seven regiments unless the King orders otherwise; they have so far been very sparing 'to strike any tally' for fear of the consequences but cannot delay for much longer especially if some of the Treasury still oppose the encouragement of any loans 'under hand' as some means must be found to supply the weekly payments to the army in Ireland since the Excise is barely sufficient for the weekly payment to the army in England. Sir Robert Holmes [Governor of the Isle Wight] has been very ill. If he dies would the King think it improper to appoint Lord Fitzharding 'nobody is better intentioned and he cannot serve in the employment he has' and the King will have his regiment to dispose of.
