Folios 130-132. Letter dated at London from Lord Carmarthen to the King that he wished his fellow Privy Councillors 'would show a little more warmth' in the King's service 'by their diligence; he can get no committee for Irish affairs to meet although the 'backwardness of all things relating to Ireland requires daily attendance'. Worse is the state of the Treasury, Godolphin not being hopeful of making the necessary payments to the army when due unless the King can use his interest to procure from the States the loan of £200,000, as yet unpaid 'to be continued in course upon the same fund next after the £200,000'. The remainder of the letter covers the information added by Lord Preston to his confession mentioning Sir Edward Seymour, King James, Lord Nottingham, Lord Weymouth, Lord Annandale, Sir James Montgomery, Nevil Paine, Wildman, the Duke of Hamilton and Lord Argyll. Carmarthen sets out the advantages if the King 'continue' Lord Preston 'till further order, without any reprieve till the meeting of a Parliament'. Lord Preston is also the only witness both against Lord Clarendon, the Bishop of Ely and [?William] Penn.
