Description

Folios 587-588: Alexander Fraser, HMS Endymion, Spithead. Providing detailed information seen during the previous 6 days regarding vessels, including an American Ship, 7 Frigates and Corvettes plus smaller vessels and their positions as well as actions being taken that he had seen off Cape la Havre after travelling from Spithead. He also reports on Mr de Clairmont, who approached in a fishing boat from the shore near the Calvados rocks and gave him several packets of letters directed to le Compte de Frotte [Marie Pierre Louis de Frotte], Mr Ferdinand, the whole of which had been put into an envelope directed for Mr Woodford [Mr E H Woodford, War Office?]. These packets of letters have been given to Sir Peter Parker to be forwarded as he thinks fit. Mr de Clairmont also provides intelligence including detail of the different kinds of gun vessels, boats, numbers of sailors, men and requisitions being made in Havre. Brest is also mentioned. Mr de Clairmont also confirms that there is no expedition against Marcon. Mr de Clairmont has now been conveyed to Marcon in HMS Trial. HMS Cynthia and HMS Snake have been left off Havre.
