The Company Law and Investigations Directorate was established in 1998 following a merger of the Company Law Directorate and the Companies Investigations Branches. The latter was a subset of the Investigations & Enforcement Directorate.
The Company Law and Investigation Directorate was responsible for the development and administration of Company Law, reviewing legislation on companies and partnerships and considering proposals for reform. New reform was being evaluated about extending the scope of the Companies Act 1985 and allowing companies to send documents to shareholders by electronic means and receive proxy voting instructions electronically from shareholders.
