Folios 273-274. An unsigned letter [from Queen Mary II] to the King [William III], dated at Whitehall [Middlesex], concerning Ireland, Scotland, and the commission for the navy command which has at last passed. Lord Pembroke, [Edward] Russell, Sir J [John] Lowther and Captain ?Priestman have all signed the commission, while the other three remain obstinate. The commission for the trial of Lord Torrington [for failings at the Battle of Beachy Head] was ordered yesterday in [?cabinet] council. The Treasury is in a poor condition. Mr Castairs has gone to Ireland 'to press you that the parliament in Scotland might sit', and that a 'melancholy business' is associated with the possibility of forfeiture, matters which involve Sir William Lockhart, Sir William Hoper [?Hooper], Lord Melvil [Melville] and Mr Hambden. Expresses concern for William's safety in crossing 'the river' [Shannon]; and urges his speedy return.
