Folios 192-193. Duke of Schomberg to the King. The King will have seen from the Count de Solms' letter the state of affairs regarding the vessels available to embark the 1,0000 men sent by the King. The arrival of the convoy from Portsmouth would help them greatly. Charges the Admiralty with want of diligence. Reports the contents of a letter he has received from France reporting that greater expense has never been seen in France than that on the navy at Brest; that of England and Holland is not believed to be in as good a condition, and that they are still expecting further vesels from Toulon. All of this strikes Schomberg as plausible and it seems to him that M. Sennelay [Seignelay?] acts with more vigour and zeal than M.Carteret or Sir Thomas Lee. He regrets that the King is so ill-served. He hopes to send tomorrow a small and well armed 60ft vessel to the Isle of Man to seek news of the warships Kirke should be returning to them. If no news of these can be found, they are to go in search of them and to bring news of the state of [the sirge of] Londonderry and whether it can be saved with the help of the troops of Enniskillen.
