Folio 191. Count de Solms to the King, from Chester. New difficulties arising every moment, and the tides make matters more awkward. They are working hard on arming the two merchant ships. He would like for the Marshall [Schomberg] to press matters a bit more, and not have such a strong preference for the French [Huguenots]. He wanted to take a Frenchman as captain for the [?Brulo regiment] and favours the French corps under the pretext of the large number of officers there are. Solms does not know how he will manage with the seven or eight French aides-de-camps, of whom only one speaks English. Refers favourably to the regiments of Berbert and Lisburn.
