Folio 190. Copy of a letter from the Duke of Lorraine to the Prince of Waldeck. He understands that Waldeck is willing to continue to pursue the public interest, namely to intercede with the States so that he [Lorraine] may have use of their great artillery and munitions. He notes the concerns raised by the season, which is advancing, and the King of England's pre-occupation with the situation in Ireland, which may embolden the French to withdraw the defensive troops on their side (and even part of their troops in Flanders) and come to the rescue of Mainz. Should this happen, with Waldeck's help to persuade relevant parties, the Elector of Brandenburg could cross the Moselle to join Lorraine to frustrate such rescue and Waldeck could assist with some detachments to protect the land above the Main. He stresses the importance to the Empire, all of its Allies and the war, that the siege succeed.
