Folios 179-180. Earl of Portland to the Duke of Schomberg from Hampton Court. He has received Schomberg's letter of the 21st from Chester, and approves the plans he outlined with the Count de Solms, but it is not possible to tell him precisely where to land, which he will leave to him not having communicated his letter to the Committee of Ireland. Since there are three French vessels between Ireland and Scotland they will need more than one warship as an escort; if he is able to equip the two merchant vessels he mentioned, together with the one warship that is at Chester this should be sufficient to try the crossing. The rest of the points in his letter will be answered by the Committee of Ireland.
