Folios 175-176. Duke of Schomberg to the King, sending memorandum by express from Chester. They need troops on the side of Carrickfergus and Strangford, within range of Londonderry where there are only 12,000 men. Should the King wish it Schomberg and Solms can go ahead there so as not to lose time; they can join up there with the forces of Enniskillen and with [Percy] Kirke. Two squadrons can be sent after them, which together with the eight refugee cavalry companies would help them to gain distance from the coast. William Herbert, a business man, will not go into Ireland, it is to be feared that he will embarass them in matters of money as he did in provisions. Schomberg does not believe the King will be well served in the Tower by Musgrave, depending wholly on Lord Dartmouth.
