Description

Folios 146-147. Prince of Waldeck to the King from the camp at Perwis. Since his last letter Marshall d'Humieres has retreated towards Mauberge. M. de Calvo has also retreated since the Prince of Vaudemont and the Count of Horn took up post at Deynse, but we assume he will be reinforced by Marshal d'Humieres. Waldeck encloses the capitulation of the garrison at Kaiserswerth. The Elector of Brandenburg has made a detachment to take the fort before the bridge at Bonn, with the intention of bombarding Bonn. Waldeck has advised he does so from over the river [Rhine] and always advances with the army to prevent all of the French forces landing on the Duke of Lorraine, who also desires that they do not engage here while he is occuped with Mainz. Postscript: He is pushing the march of the Elector of Brandenburg towards Stablo so as they can act in concert with him, and will also attach himself to the Marquis of Gastanaga to draw him back from his plans in Flanders which have gained new life since the retreat of Calvo. Waldeck is advising the Elector of Brandenbourg to prepare an artillerie at Maastricht for a siege should the opportunity arise. Waldeck seeks the King's view regarding Count Flodroff observations on Goor [SP8/5/135] and whether he can remain in their service given Mr Hinloppen is persecuting him and withholding his wages. Mallebrouck [Marlborough] wishes that the King's guards, both English and Scottish, form Waldeck's guard which he felt he should accept.
