Folio 43. Report to the Prince of Waldeck (25 April 1689 at 11 o'clock), on the capture of Nuis. The Tower, part of the castle and some houses in the town were set alight by a "maitre de feu d'artifice" stationed on the other side of the Rhine, who had also made a breach in the wall facing the Rhine and opened the gorge of the second bastion. He has been promised a reward of 100 ducats and his gunners one of 100 crowns. By 3 or 4 o/clock in the afternoon the strength of the fire had grown sufficiently to force the enemy to capitulate, which was also facilitated by the mutiny of the German troops. The German troops will be free to serve the Allies without returning to France. The French numbering 250 will be sent to the camp of M. d'Humiers in a suitable convoy. Requesting to keep the "maitre de feu d'artifice" [artillery master fireworker] in their service.
