Folio 42. Copy of the letter from Mr Hop to the Prince of Waldeck, from Vienna. Enclosing papers and adding that there is still some concern that the Elector of Bavaria could take badly the appointment of the Duke of Lorraine to the command of the Imperial army, as he has written to the Emperor to say that he would not be employed to look after the baggage and desired employment worthy of his reputation. The Pope has given to King James of England a subsidy of 100,000 crowns. They eagerly await the British King's declaration of war against France, until which time the Court will not recognise his title and his representatives may be met with some coolness. The Duke of Lorraine and Mr de Bateman believe that sending Mr de Valckenir to Switzerland could be useful to ensure the Cantons at least do not oppose any passage through their territory that might be needed.
