A letter from the Earl of Ranelagh [Paymaster General] to [King William] claiming that the profits of his office 'are represented to your Majesty to be far greater than they really are'. Adduces figures to show a profit of only £6,910 18s 4d, and hopes the King will think £3,000 annually 'a reasonable salary'.
