Captured ship: La Prothée (commander Charles Louis du Chilleau, Vicomte du Chilleau).
History: a French warship (1100 tons, 496 men, 121 officers and soldiers, passengers on board), bound from Brest and Port L'Orient; taken on 24 February 1781 in latitude 40°N and about 150 leagues from Madeira by a squadron of four HM ships (Rear Admiral Digby commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.
