Description

Folios 600-601: Man [Mann] Dobson, Regulating Captain, Bristol. He is enclosing the case of Robert Riley as stated by Lieutenant Pitman. He has no doubt that his being bound to Thomas Waldron, a Blacksmith, is to keep him from the impress, as the Lieutenant saw him as Mate of the vessel he mentions when he visited her on a former occasion, and the owners of the vessel say they understand he served his time at sea.

Folios 602-603: enclosure with folios 600-601. Letter dated 29 May 1815 from John Conlon, Clifton near Bristol, to J W Croker, Admiralty, London. The apprentice of Thomas Waldron, a Blacksmith near this city, was impressed and the Regulating Captain will not give him up without the authority of the Admiralty. He is enclosing a certificate and endorsed by respectable signatories. Mr Waldron understands that the tender's complement is nearly complete and unless the discharge arrives in a day or two she will have sailed.

Folio 604: enclosure with folios 602-603. Certificate dated 25 May 1815 from Thomas Waldron, Clifton. The undersigned housekeepers of the parish of Clifton in the county of Gloucester certify that Thomas Waldron is a housekeeper and Blacksmith resident in the parish and they have examined an indenture of apprenticeship dated 18 January 1815 whereby Robert Reilly is bound to him for 7 years in the trade of blacksmith. They understands that he has been impressed and Thomas Waldron is greatly inconvenience by this. Signed by 16 people.

Folio 605: enclosure with folios 600-601. Letter dated 30 May 1815 from Lieutenant William Pitman to Captain Man Dobson, Regulating Captain, Bristol. Robert Reilly, aged 19 years and a quarter, physical description given, born in Bristol, time at sea uncertain, rated Ordinary, was impressed on the evening of 23 [May 1815] dressed in a blue jacket and trousers. When he was regulated he stated that he was a Blacksmith's apprentice but he knew that he had been to sea as Mate on the Emelia, Master John Pasley, so he was sent on board HMS Enchantress.
