Folios 233-235; 238-242; 289-293; 300-302. Petition of the jury who sat on the trial of the Reverend Bennett Allen at the Old Bailey for the wilful murder of Lloyd Dulaney in a duel in Hyde Park following some disobliging remarks published by Allen in regard to Delany, an American. Given his peaceable disposition and very poor eyesight they brought in a verdict of manslaughter. He was fined 1 shilling and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment in Newgate. The jury are concerned that such a period of imprisonment might lead to the loss of his sight and recommend him for mercy. Folios 238-243 and 300-302 are Bennett Allen's petition for mercy. Folios 289-290 contain Judge Buller's comments. The evidence suggests that Allen had sought the duel in a most determined way.
