Folios 276-277. Letter dated at Lisburn from the Duke de Schomberg to the King requesting a replacement, preferably from Holland, for Captain Glom [Glaum, 'Comptroller of the Fire Master and Trayne'] who died at sea. As to promotions in the regiments, Lord Hewett is dead and his regiment sought by Lieutenant Bayerley [Byerley]. As hardly any of the officers in this regiment are capable of commanding a squadron, Schomberg proposes to appoint Monsieur de Cagny, who speaks a little English and has been a captain of cavalry for 15 years, in case Bayerley is made colonel. This would stop solicitions to the King for the lieutenant-colonelcy or the majority by a young captain named Littleton in order to marry.
