Description

Folios 94-97. Letter dated at Luinegarve [Lisnagarvey, Lisburn] from the Duke of Schomberg to the King that it is difficult to carry on the campaign at this time of year; there is a lack of wagons to carry bread which will be worse when the Danes arrive; he has sent Sir John Lanier to 'the side of Sligo' with the regiments of Hafort [?Heyford] and Hastings but Lanier, who says that his regiment was in a wretched state before going to Scotland, has not passed Enniskillen making the excuse that he cannot find subsistence for the troops; he has ordered Shales to send a ship with biscuit and meal to Ballyshannon; Shales says he cannot supply more than 24 'carriages' should Schomberg wish to march 'in this country'; says that Mr Harboard [Harbord] makes great profit out of the musters, the hospital, the artillery and the payment of the troops; he has been ill for a month, has been advised to go to England and asks for permission to do so towards the spring. Lord Shrewsbury, [the Earl of] Lovelace, [Nicholas] Sanky [Sankey], Sir Henry Ingleby [Ingoldsby], [Lieutenant-Colonel Toby] Purcell, Charlemont, Lord Dartmouth, Count Schomberg and the Elector of Brandenburg are mentioned.
