Part 2, Folios 91-92. A letter from the W [William Lloyd, Bishop of St] Asaph to Monsieur Benting [Hans William Bentinck] 'now with the Prince at Sion [Syon] House, Middlesex], concerning the King's [James II's] willingness to reach an 'accommodation' on the dynastic, religious and political impasse [resulting in his overthrow during the Glorious Revolution]. According to Lord Halifax, as reported by the Bishop of Ely's [Francis Turner's], the King is willing to 'make a large concession for peace', 'even to be reduced to the state of a duke of Venice, committing all the power of war and peace and the making all officers ecclesiastic and civil to the Prince for his lifetime'. Mentions a 'throng of Papists [Roman Catholics] around the King, headed by Monsieur Barillon. Seal.
