Description

Folios: 443-444. Charters of kings. Licence for the duke of Lancaster [John of Gaunt] and Blanche, his wife, to enfeoff William de Bughbrigge and Walter de Campeden, clerks.

First party: Edward III.

Second Party: John, duke of Lancaster, the king's son, and Blanche, his wife.

Place or Subject: The king grants licence to the duke and his wife that they can enfeoff William de Bughbrigge and Walter de Campeden, clerks, of the castles, lordships and commotes of Kedwelly [Kidwelly], Karkenny [Carnwyllion] and Iskenny [Is Cennen], the lordship and commote of Karnwathlan [Carn Waltham] and the manor of Oggemore [Ogmore] in Wales, the manor of Somburne Regis [King's Somborne], Hants, the castle and manor of Troubrigge [Trowbridge] and the manors of Aldebourne [Aldbourne], Colyngbourne [Collingbourne], Everlee [Everley] and Hungerford, Wilts; the manors of Poghlee [Poughley] and Staundon [Standen], Berks; the manors of Rodelee [Rodley], Tyberton [Tibberton] and Menstreworth [Minsterworth], Gloucs; and the manors of Gymyngham [Gimingham], Tunstede [Tunstead], Thefford [Thetford] and Methewold [Methwold] and the hundreds of Galhowe [Gallow] and Brothercros [Brothercross], Norf; and the advowsons of the abbey of Marham and the priory of canons of Tefford [Thetford], which are held of the king in chief. To hold to William and Walter and their heirs of the king and his heirs by the due and accustomed services forever. And licence for the duke and Blanche that they can grant the manor of Weston, Hants, which Franc Vanhale, knight, holds for the term of his life; the manor of Hertlee [Hartley], Hants, which Stephen de Cosyngton, knight, holds for the term of his life; the manor of Lavyngton [Lavington], Wilts, which Nicholas de Kymbell holds for the term of his life; the manor of Esgarston [East Garston], Berks, which Nicholas de Tamworth, knight, holds for the term of his life; the manor of Passenham, Northants, which Edmund de Ufford, knight, holds for the term of his life; and the manor of Stapulford [Stapleford], Leics, which Thomas de la Mare holds for the term of his life of Blanche's inheritance and which after the death of Franc, Stephen, Nicholas, Nicholas, Edmund and Thomas ought to revert to the duke and Blanche and her heirs, and also after their death are to remain to William and Walter.
