Folios: 441v-442. Charters of kings. Confirmation of a charter by which King Henry granted to Edmund, his son [Edmund of Lancaster], the honors of Derby and Leicester and several other possessions to Henry, son of Edmund, dated at Kenillewurth [Kenilworth] on 12 July 50 Hen. III.
First party: Edward III.
Second Party: Henry, earl of Lancaster, son and heir of the said Edmund.
Place or Subject: Edward III has inspected the charter of Henry III, his great-grandfather, in which Henry granted to Edmund, his son, the honor of Derby, the castles, manors and all lands and tenements which were of Robert de Ferariis, and the honor of Leicester and all lands and tenements with appurtenances which were of Simon de Montfort, late earl of Leicester, the king's enemies, and which passed into the king's hands by their forfeiture as his escheats. The present king inspected and confirmed the grant to Henry, earl of Lancaster, and his heirs in tail, by his letters patent dated at Westminster on 5 Dec 4 Edw. III. The king at the earl's request has now caused these letters patent to be exemplified.
