Description

Folios: 434-434v. Charters of privileges. Grant.

First party: Edward I.

Second Party: Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, and Margaret, his wife.

Place or Subject: The king grants to Henry and Margaret that they and their heirs are to have forever free warren in all their demesne lands of Sutton, Lutton, Swaueton [Swaton] and Brothelby [Brocklesby], Lincs, and Thornhaghe [Thorney], Notts, provided that those lands are not within the metes of the king's forest. In such a way that no one is to enter those lands to hunt in them or to take anything which pertains to the warren, without licence and will of Henry and Margaret or their heirs, upon forfeiture of £10. They are also to have forever one market every week on a Wednesday at their manor of Sutton in Hoylande [Long Sutton], Lincs, and one fair there every year to last four days, namely on the eve, on the feast-day and on the morrow of St James the Apostle, and one day following. And one market every week on a Friday at their manor of Lutton in the same county, and one fair there every year to last four days, namely on the eve, on the feast-day and on the morrow of the Nativity of St Mary and one day following. And one market every week on a Friday at their manor of Swaueton [Swaton] in the same county, and one fair there there every year to last four days, namely on the eve, on the feast-day and on the morrow of St Thomas the Martyr and one day following; and another fair there, namely on the eve, on the feast-day and on the morrow of Michaelmas and one day following, unless those markets and fairs are to the nuisance of neighbouring markets and fairs.
