Description

Folios: 425-425v. Charters of privileges. Charter of Henry III about diverse liberties made to Edmund, his son.

First party: Henry III.

Second Party: Edmund, his son, earl of Leicester.

Place or Subject: The king grants that Edmund and his heirs are to have and hold of the king and his heirs all his lands and fees with all liberties and free customs well and in peace, and honourably, free and quit from suits of shire courts and hundred courts and the aid of sheriffs, etc, and from giving money for murder and robbery and from giving money pertaining to frankpledge, and 'thol, theam, infangenthef, utfangenthef, soc and sac', and quittance from his demesnes throughout the king's demesnes from pontage, passage, toll, toll paid by travellers, payage, stallage, cornage and tallage, gelds and danegelds, 'blodewite, fichewite', works of castles, walls, bridges, parks, ditches, causeways and houses. And that they are to have their free chase of Wisselay and Wimburnholte [Wimborne Holt] and the taking of venison in those woods, which was awarded to him by law-worthy knights in the king's court at Westminster. [And the king granted] that these woods are to be quit of waste and regard, and that Edmund and his heirs are to use the same liberties and customs forever without impediment of the king or his heirs.
