Description

Folios: 420v-421. About parts across the seas. Indenture of lease.

First party: John, son of the king of England, duke of Guyene and Lancaster, earl of Derby, Leicester and Lincoln, steward of England [John of Gaunt].

Second Party: Robert Crede, burgess and draper of the town of Caleys [Calais].

Place or Subject: Five cottages with the gardens situated in the vill of Caleys [Calais] between the tenements of John White, 'wyndrawer', who holds at farm of the duke, on the east side, and the highway called Wynstrete on the west, and between the large garden of the duke on the north, and the highway within the church of Our Lady within le Melkport on the south side. And also two small cottages with the gardens, situated in the same vill, abutting upon the highway called Fysshstrete on the east and the garden of Robert Hacsmall on the west, and the tenements of Robert Hacsmall on the north, and the land of the duke on the south. And also five houses called 'wollehouses', situated in the vill between the house of William Cane, burgess there, and the large place of the duke and the highway called Ducstrete on the east, and abutting on the high street called Wynstrete on the west side and upon the tenements of John Lovetoft, esquire, and upon the tenements of William Cane and upon the hall on the north side and upon the large garden of the duke on the south side.
